Before your keratin treatment
Who is the best candidate for a keratin smoothing treatment?
Almost anyone. It is effective on all hair types, including thick, thin, dry, chemically damaged, straight, wavy and curly hair. This professional service makes hair healthier as it smooths the cuticle, eliminates frizz and creates shine.
Can I still have a keratin treatment if my hair is highlighted or colored?
Yes. The keratin smoothing treatment works very well with highlighted and colored hair. It enhances the color, eliminates frizz and makes hair look healthier overall.
Am I still a candidate if I am platinum blonde?
Yes. Your stylist is trained to perform the treatment on very light hair and will turn the flat iron down to 380–400°F, depending on the condition of your hair.
Can the treatment be applied on top of relaxers or perms?
Absolutely. The keratin smoothing treatment works well on chemically treated and damaged hair. Its proteins and nutrients help seal the cuticle and leave hair looking healthy.
Can the treatment be done on hair extensions?
Yes — in fact, it is a great solution for extensions that become very dry because they don't receive natural oils from the scalp. It is easiest to do the treatment before the extensions are put in, but if they are already in, it is not a problem. Extra caution is taken around the bonds or cylinders.
Can I have my color done on the same day?
Yes. This can work well on the same day because the cuticle is already open. If your hair is healthy and resistant, you may want the keratin treatment on a separate day so the hair can be clarified a bit more beforehand — ask your stylist what they recommend.
We recommend doing color first, with the keratin treatment after. If you decide to color after your keratin treatment instead, waiting a couple of weeks is preferable.
Can the treatment be performed on clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding?
Because there have not been studies on the possible effects, we recommend erring on the side of caution and do not perform the service on pregnant clients unless their doctor clears them. Clients who are breastfeeding should also get their doctor's approval first.

Is the keratin treatment going to make my hair straight?
It depends on your natural texture. Wavy hair will most likely be able to dry straight. Curly hair keeps its curl, with frizz eliminated and the definition of the natural curl enhanced. Straight hair loses its frizz and gains a shiny, healthy look. On all hair, the treatment cuts drying time to about a third of the usual time.
Will the treatment reduce my hair's volume?
No. Your hair will still have volume, and you can still use a curling iron or round brush to create body.
Is the treatment permanent, or will it grow out?
Neither. The treatment is not permanent and does not grow out — it gradually and evenly washes out, so there is no line of demarcation. It doesn't change the inner structure of the hair; instead it creates a protein layer over the cuticle that protects the hair. Because the hair is protected for an extended time, its condition improves.
How long will the keratin treatment last?
Results vary with hair type and how often you wash. Results typically last up to 12 weeks; some wave can return sooner, though hair will still be much easier to blow-dry. Using the proper support products is essential. The treatment is cumulative, so the more treatments you receive, the longer you can go between them.
Keratin & Brazilian Blowout aftercare
How long do I need to wait to wash my hair afterward?
We recommend waiting two days before washing your hair after your treatment.
How can I make my keratin treatment last longer?
Using the proper aftercare products is really important, and a sulfate-free shampoo is essential. Use the aftercare line your salon or stylist recommends.
Will swimming in the ocean or a pool affect my treatment?
Occasional swimming is fine, but swimming regularly may shorten the life of your treatment. Applying a leave-in serum or conditioner beforehand helps protect hair from chlorine and salt.
